Beth Shalom Messianic Congregation

Weekly Torah Study

One part of our mission is to help clear up some of the mass confusion that is out there and one way in which we endeavor to do this is by offering a Weekly Torah Study each Tuesday night at 8:00 PM EST/7:00 PM CST. Each week, interested participants join together online via Adobe Connect where we read through the weekly Torah portion and then have an open discussion on the various points discovered. Time is available for participants to ask questions or share their own perspective. Many of the Leadership Team participate in these discussions and are available for followup should any questions remain unanswered.

To join us on this wonderful journey through the Torah:

  1. Click on this link and it will direct you to Adobe Connect and the M.T.O.I. Torah Study page.
  2. Enter as a Guest by typing in your name and clicking on the Enter Room button. Do not select the Enter with your login and password option.
  3. Once you have entered the room, you must enable your microphone. Go to the top of the screen and click on the microphone icon. A small window will pop up. Click on the Allow button to enable your microphone.
  4. Once your microphone has been enabled, please mute it by clicking on the microphone icon. A single click on this icon will mute and unmute your microphone as needed.
  5. Please note: if you do not have a microphone, you can still participate as Adobe Connect features a robust chat room platform.
  6. Spend a little bit of time reviewing Adobe Connect's interface so that you can easily chat with the group, raise your hand to volunteer to read or to particpate vocally in the discussion, and how to activate and deactivate your microphone.
  7. We use a numbering system to help communicate with each other: (1) means "yes" or that you agree; it also means that you can hear the speaker through the microphone. (2) means "no" or that you don't understand; it also means that you cannot hear the speaker. (5) means that someone has a lot of information that they want to type in the chat room but need some time to get it all entered.
  8. Finally, we do record all aspects of the Weekly Torah Study discussion, including audio and the chat dialogue.

We follow the same, general agenda each week. First we will accept praise reports and prayer requests. We then pray for those and for the time of study. The Torah portions are usually broken out into five to fifteen sections. Each participant has an opportunity to volunteer to read (providing that they have a working microphone). Each reader is blessed over by Rabbi Berkson prior to reading. Once the entire Torah portion has been read, a blessing is said and then the discussion, often called a midrash, begins. At the close of the Weekly Torah Study, a prayer is said for the upcoming week and the group is dismissed with a ten to one countdown.

It is our heart felt prayer that these Weekly Torah Studies will bless you. If you have any questions regarding the Weekly Torah Study process or would like to have a private conversation about anything discussed during the Weekly Torah Study, please do not hesitate to contact Rabbi Steve Berkson or any other participating member of the Leadership Team.
